Lakers Versus Celtics in NBA Finals
Written by Jay on June 1, 2008 – -
Here we have it ladies and gentle-fellas… it’s the number 1 seeds facing off in the NBA Finals, the Los Angeles Lakers against my hometown team, Boston Celtics.
Well, I basically called it by stating in a previous post that the Lakers and Celtics were going to end up in the NBA Finals against each other. And look, we have them facing off for the first time since Larry Bird was facing Magic Johnson, back in the 80′s.
And for the record, the Lakers have faced off against the Celtics in the NBA Finals on 10 separate occasions prior to this year. Now, that’s what you call a tradition!
So, who will win?
It’s tough to say because it’s the two best teams in the league facing off. But out of all my predictions so far:
- I said the Celtics were going to beat the Hawks, Cavs and Pistons – and I was right.
- I said the Spurs were going to beat the Suns and Hornets – and I was right.
- I said the Lakers were going to beat the Nuggets, Jazz and Spurs – and I was right.
Only thing I was wrong on (with the ones I actually predicted) was the Magic versus Pistons. I felt the Magic had a chance this year.
Now, our friend at Political Disgust mentioned the Lakers having no problem advancing to the NBA Finals but the Celtics might run out of gas. I think it’s going to be the opposite, the Celtics are finally winning games they need to win, and yes, that includes two road victories against the Detroit Pistons. I have a feeling they’re going to get stronger as they play.
Plus, the veterans on the Celtics have more determination to get their first championship title. I mean, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce have never played on a good enough team to make it to the NBA Finals. They’ve all been in the league for quite sometime and they aren’t getting any younger!
So, my prediction: This is a tough call because the Lakers are playing at it’s best, and just look at their entire team! But I’m going to go with the Boston Celtics to win. The reason, first, because I have to cheer for my hometown team. Second, because they’re playing better and have home-court advantage. Lastly, and this doesn’t mean much because it’s the playoffs, but the Celtics dominated the Western Conference in the regular season.
Celtics to defeat the Lakers in seven games.
