R. Kelly Acquitted of Child Pornography Charges

R&B Singer R. Kelly was acquitted of child pornography charges this past Friday which finally closes the book on this six-year investigation.
I’m sure all of you have heard about this - and if you haven’t, you really need to get out more - but R. Kelly was charged with 14 counts of child pornography charges and this ordeal lasted for years. Matter of fact, this all dated back to 2002. But on Friday, after the jury deliberated on the case for close to 8 hours, they found R. Kelly innocent on all 14 charges.
After reading quite a few articles, I’ve seen people use the comparison to the O.J. Simpson trial. Now, that definitely isn’t even on the same level but still people want to compare the two because a) both were big name celebrities b) both of them were found innocent and c) I’m sure the comparisons were there because of race.
To me, the whole trial was pointless because the girl that was supposedly in the sex tape, R. Kelly and just about everybody else was denying it was them. So, it almost felt like people were just wasting money to try to accuse an innocent man.
So, R. Kelly gets off but the prosecutors just gave him a bad name and reputation for the past six years. I mean, no one would have imagined this trial go on for so long. Not even R. Kelly myself.
Kelly’s publicist Allen Mayer said in a statement, “Robert said all along that he believed in our system and he believed in God - and that when all the facts came out in court, he would be cleared of these terrible charges. But he never dreamed it would take six and a half years. This has been a terrible ordeal for him and his family and at this point all he wants to do is move forward and put it behind him.”
