CC Sabathia Signs With NY Yankees for $160 Million – Will He Suck Now?
Written by Jay on December 10, 2008 – -

It looks like the New York Yankees do this every year: pay ridiculous amounts of money to get pitchers. Matter of fact, they spend so much money to build an all-star team of their own but we all know egos and big names can’t win championships without playing as a team.
Anyways, the Yankees decided that they would pay the most money ever to a pitcher that was a former Cy Young Winner – CC Sabathia.
Now I’m not saying he’s not a good pitcher. Matter of fact, he’s great. Last year when he was traded to the Brewers, he was almost untouchable.
But playing for the Brewers against the National League Central division is far different from playing for the Yanks and against arguably the hardest division in the major leagues – the American League East.
On top of playing for the Yankees and the hardest division in MLB, if history shows, all former big time pitchers who have been signed to the Yanks have done a lot worse. Below are just a few names:
Kei Igawa – Biggest flop. He was paid big money to come from Japan but he’s probably played more in the minor leagues than anything.
Carl Pavano – He used to be one of the best pitchers in the league prior to coming to the Yanks.
Randy Johnson – Um, a former World Series MVP and Cy Young winner until he went to the Yankees… then had arguably his worst years of his career.
Kevin Brown – He was great with the Dodgers so the Yankees just had to have him… then he flopped.
Mike Mussina – Prior to his best year of his career last year, he was just a mediocre pitcher with the Yankees.
CC Sabathia – Is he next? Will be just become another big name pitcher that becomes mediocre or worse?!
Whatever happens, the Yankees definitely aren’t afriad to spend tons of money to get who they think are the best players… at the time.
