Forbes Billionaires 2009 – The World’s Richest People Just Got Poorer

Bill Gates Forbes Billionaires 2009

It looks like the latest Forbes Billionaires 2009 list has just come out and the economy definitely took its toll with the richest people in the world as well.

Last year, I believe there were a little over 1,100 billionaires in the world and as of now, there are a little less than 800. Not only that but I read that 83% of those saw their net worth decrease while only a total of 44 of them got richer within the past year.

But Warren Buffett is no longer the richest man and Bill Gates climbs to the top as number one again even after losing $18 billion. He climbed to the top because Buffett apparently lost $25 billion and now is currently sitting at second place.

Rounding out the top three is Carlos Slim Helu which is a Mexican telecom titan but he also ended up losing $25 billion.

One key point to be made is the Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, 24, once the youngest billionaire in the world, no longer holds that title because of the $600 million he lost, he sitting in the multi-million category.

Eh, either one would be fine with me!
