2009 Home Run Derby Participants

Since we’re on the MLB all-star break, let’s get into who the 2009 Home Run Derby participants are. And I’ll be honest with you, I rather see a few different people but since a bunch of them declined on the offer to participar in this years Home Run Derby, it’ll be interesting.
Josh Hamilton who broke the record in total homers and most homers in a single round will not be participating this year. Matter of fact, last years champ, Justin Morneau, won’t be defending his title either.
Instead, a bunch of other hitters will be participating which include MLB home run leader, Albert Pujols, and fan favorite. Also, slugger Ryan Howard will also participat this year. In addition, sluggers such as Adrian Gonzalez, Prince Fielder, and Carlos Pena will also be included.
Joe Mauer, Nelson Cruz and Brandon Inge will also participate this year. Though, none of the three are known to be big power hitters, I’m sure they’ll fair just fine.
I was a little curious why they didn’t invite Russell Branyan from the Mariners, though. He is currently second in the AL in home runs and I’m sure he would have been happy participating.
Well, I’m going to pick Pujols as the champ for this year. It’ll just be another award he adds to his resume… plus, he’s the fan favorite since the All-Star is being held in St. Louis.
Anyways, that rounds out the 2009 Home Run Derby participants.
