Box-Office Predictions: Will The Dark Knight Stay On Top?
Written by Jay on August 8, 2008 – -I missed my box-office prediction for last week but the week before I did pretty good. I predicted The Dark Knight was going to finish on top with Step Brothers finishing second and I was pretty close on the weekend earnings as well.
Anyways, this week, will the Dark Knight remain on top? Last week they barely beat out The Mummy but I’m going to take a shot and say they will barely finish first, again.
Now I have my doubts but I thought about it and saw what was coming out this weekend and didn’t see any real box-office contenders. I mean, Pineapple Express came out, looks pretty funny but I highly doubt it’s going to do better than Step Brothers’ opening weekend of $30 million.
I know their Superbad movie pulled in about $33 million the opening weekend but the downfall is the fact that the movie is rated R and how many pot smokers will actually pay to see the movie?
Also, the chick flick Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 is out but like I said, it’s a chick flick. And I don’t think there will be enough chicks forcing their boyfriends to watch it with them. Let me correct myself, I think the boyfriends will take a stand and not be a victim to this movie (including myself!).
So, this is my predictions:
1. Pineapple Express with $31 million – Hey, I’m going to support the movie this weekend!
2. The Dark Knight with $27 million
3. The Mummy with $22 million
Well, I know you guys thought I was going to pick the Dark Knight but think they will be dethroned this week by the pot smoking snack munchers!
The chick flick won’t make it in the top 3…
That’s my predictions, what do you guys think?

Alicia Keys Teams Up with Jack White for New Bond 007 Theme Song
Written by Jay on July 29, 2008 – -It looks like Amy Winehouse is out and Alicia Keys is in to lend her beautiful and soulful voice to the new theme song for the upcoming Bond 007 movie, Quantum of Solace. Honestly, I would’ve picked Alicia Keys over Amy Winehouse anyday.
Alicia Keys will be teaming up with Jack White, the male half of the White Stripes, to produce this new theme song. And if you didn’t know, Jack White actually wrote and produced the tune, titled “Another Way to Die,” and he will also play the drums.
The film’s soundtrack is scheduled to come out in stores October 28th, while the movie itself is scheduled to hit theaters on November 7th. This will be the second 007 movie featuring Daniel Craig is Bond. We’ll see how he does in this second movie.
White and Keys’ collaboration marks the first time a duo have taken on the task of a Bond song.
Hey, rumors had it that Alicia Keys was one of the frontrunners for this role and it was confirmed earlier today. Alicia Keys has yet to disappoint in the music area, so expect the theme song to be great!

Box Office Predictions: The Dark Knight Stays On Top, Step Brothers Barely Make Second
Written by Jay on July 25, 2008 – -
In it’s second weekend out, my prediction is The Dark Knight will take the number one spot again. I know that’s not a shot in the dark or anything, especially the fact that it made $150+ million in it’s opening weekend. But if you look at this weeks opening movies, Step Brothers and X-Files, it’s not exactly the best competition to dethrone The Dark Knight , is it?
I think it’s quite obvious The Dark Knight will not make the same amount in it’s first week but I think it’ll take in at least another $50+ million.
The movie that I think will take the second spot is a toss-up. I mean, there are a bunch of hardcore X-Files fans but that movie didn’t really get the needed exposure. So, with that said, I will go with Step Brothers to steal the number two spot taking in around $30 million. Honestly, I feel I’m giving a little too much for that movie because the fact that it’s rated R and I’m sure not that many adults will want to see that movie.
The third spot is defaulted to X-Files with $20-$25 million. Again, this is just a prediction and I can be completely wrong. But seriously, they didn’t get that much publicity for the movie and do people really want to see them in a movie?
Hey, that’s my prediction. What do you think?

The Dark Knight Shatters Box-Office Records: $155.4 Million
Written by Jay on July 21, 2008 – -
We all knew The Dark Knight sequel was going to make over $100 million during the first weekend and many predicted it was going to break the previous record; and it did.
Christopher Nolan’s dark sequel took in $155.4 million in The Dark Knight’s opening weekend. The previous record, I believe, was held by Spider-Man 3 which made $151.1 million in the opening weekend.
But this weekend of breaking Hollywood movie records didn’t stop there. This weekend also topped the most the movie box-office has made in a three-day weekend. And yes, that includes all the movies like Mamma Mia which took in $27.6 million on it’s opening weekend.
The previous record was a $218.4 million weekend in July 2007 when Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest came out.
Wait, the records aren’t done yet. The Dark Knight is projected to make $220 million in its first week alone which would be more than what Nolan’s Batman Begins movie made in its entire U.S. run alone.
Hold on, there are a few more records to mention:
The Dark Knight had the biggest midnight release taking in $18.5 million, the biggest weekend on IMAX screens with $6.2 million, top single-day take on a Friday with $67.9 million and showed on the most screens at 4,366.
Now that’s what you call making an impact on your opening week!

The Incredible Hulk 2 Movie Spoilers
Written by Jay on June 9, 2008 – -
Now before anyone reads on, there are a handful of spoilers after the image in the middle, so if you do not want to know anything about the new Incredible Hulk 2 movie, then I would suggest not going on.
Okay, now that we got that out of the way…
I just came back from seeing a special screening of the Incredible Hulk 2 and yes, it is definitely better than the first one. Now, I was never an extremely huge die-hard Incredible Hulk fan growing up, but you have to at least check out all the Marvel Comics movies, especially since Stan Lee took ownership back to the movie making.
Back to the movie, I think Ed Norton actually did an okay with playing Hulk, but I’m still not really a big fan. And Liv Tyler, well, I couldn’t picture her playing the part of Betty Ross and even after, I still don’t think she looked right for the part.
Now, don’t get me wrong, she’s beautiful and she actually did pretty well in the movie, just personally, I have a tough to seeing it.

"Speed Racer" Crashed in the Box Office - We Told You So!
Written by Jay on May 13, 2008 – -
I’ll say this before and I’ll say it again, “Speed Racer” just wasn’t going to do good. And I could’ve told you this the minute I saw the previews, whenever that was. But the final numbers are in at the box office, and “Speed Racer” actually dropped down to third place finish behind “What Happens in Vegas!” Like I said in the title, “We Told You So!”
I know that seems pretty childish but we went on record a few posts ago stating that we wouldn’t be surprised if “What Happens in Vegas” actually overtook the second spot from “Speed Racer.”
So, originally, “Speed Racer” was estimated at $20.2M for the opening weekend box office but as of Monday, the totals ended up being $18.6M which moved them down to a third place opening day weekend finish in the box office.
With those totals, The Wachowski brothers’ movie came about $1.6M short of earlier studio estimates and definitely, and I mean, definitely came up really short of expectations; espcially with all he hype that the movie got.
What makes it worse, particularly for the studio, owned byTime Warner, is the fact that they spent their $120 million budget. And if I did my math correctly, that means someone has to come u with $100M or someone is going to be pissed!
Well, that’s the entertainment business for you. You win some… but most of the time you don’t live up to expectations!
