"Speed Racer" Crashed in the Box Office - We Told You So!
Written by Jay on May 13, 2008 – -
I’ll say this before and I’ll say it again, “Speed Racer” just wasn’t going to do good. And I could’ve told you this the minute I saw the previews, whenever that was. But the final numbers are in at the box office, and “Speed Racer” actually dropped down to third place finish behind “What Happens in Vegas!” Like I said in the title, “We Told You So!”
I know that seems pretty childish but we went on record a few posts ago stating that we wouldn’t be surprised if “What Happens in Vegas” actually overtook the second spot from “Speed Racer.”
So, originally, “Speed Racer” was estimated at $20.2M for the opening weekend box office but as of Monday, the totals ended up being $18.6M which moved them down to a third place opening day weekend finish in the box office.
With those totals, The Wachowski brothers’ movie came about $1.6M short of earlier studio estimates and definitely, and I mean, definitely came up really short of expectations; espcially with all he hype that the movie got.
What makes it worse, particularly for the studio, owned byTime Warner, is the fact that they spent their $120 million budget. And if I did my math correctly, that means someone has to come u with $100M or someone is going to be pissed!
Well, that’s the entertainment business for you. You win some… but most of the time you don’t live up to expectations!

Iron Man Iron’s Out Competition in the Box Office - I Told You!
Written by Jay on May 11, 2008 – -I told you, I mentioned this before but did I not predict Iron Man was going to be number 1 in the box office for the second straight week? Don’t take my word for it, check my archives!
Iron Man didn’t do as good as the week before, but movies usually don’t the following week. Of course, there are certain exceptions, but rare. Iron Man still did pretty good, it managed to take in an estimated $50.5 million which was good enough to take the number 1 spot from new movies such as “Speed Racer” and “What Happens in Vegas.”
“Speed Racer” managed to finish second with $20.2 million, followed by “What Happens in Vegas” with $20 million.
I didn’t mention this on this blog but I predicted “Speed Racer” not doing that great. I mean, it managed to finish second, but these figures on an estimate and look at how close “What Happens in Vegas” is behind them. They may very well have a good shot at taking over the second spot.
But “Speed Racer” was pretty hyped up so it obviously didn’t live up to expectations. I mean, I don’t plan on seeing the movie or anything because it just looks to, um, not that good. And I’m sure people were disappointed with it, especially how it did in the box office.
“We were disappointed with the results over the weekend,” said Dan Fellman, president of domestic distribution for Warner Bros.
Hey, I knew it, you knew it but apparently, no one bothered to mention it to the Warner Bros, huh?

Robert Downey Jr Signs Up for Iron Man Sequel
Written by Jay on May 6, 2008 – -
Not long after Iron Man blew away it’s competition in the box office, Marvel Studios announced that Robert Downey Jr has signed up for the comic book adaption sequel which is due to be released in 2010.
Well, good for Robert Downey Jr, because I think he played one great Tony Stark/Iron Man. And this just shows that actors with off-screen problems can bounce back. And for those who didn’t know, he battled drug problems which took affect on his career.
But let’s get back to the Iron Man sequel which is set to be released in 2010. I have a feeling that War Machine, Iron Man’s allie is going to be introduced.
Also, it’s said that the Marvel movies have been such a success that they’re probably going to have motion picture films of Thor, Captain America and The Avengers before the release of the Iron Man sequel.
Yup, I knew they were going to have The Avengers made into a movie, I mean, just read my “Iron Man Spoiler” post and you’ll know!
Lastly, for the record, I read that Iron Man actually just missed the $100M mark on it’s opening day weekend. It’s said the final showings were about $98.6M.

The New Batman Trailer Released!
Written by Jay on May 5, 2008 – -
If you guys were in such anticipation for the new Dark Knight trailer to be released, well, you don’t have to wait anymore! The second full length trailer for the new Batman movie is up and it just keeps looking better and better each time.
I first saw the full trailer during the previews of the Iron Man movie, but if you haven’t seen the Iron Man movie yet and you don’t want to wait to see the new trailer, you can check it out the second full length trailer here.
But the second trailer of the new Batman movie seems to give a little more details than the first one. Don’t get me wrong, it still leaves you in suspense but this time around, it’s not just a few words, a few Joker laughs and quick snippets. They actually show some more scenes and like I said, it just hypes up the movie even more.
I know I tend to make some predictions but I get a feeling this movie is going to go over the $100M mark just like the Iron Man movie this past weekend. I have a feeling it might even dethrone the Spider-Man 3 box office earnings for the first three days in the theaters.
Why do I think that?
It’s simple, the movie looks great. The movie is hyped up. Everyone who saw the first one will want to see this Christian Bale sequel (he did a great job in the first movie). This was almost the last movie Heath Ledger filmed so every one of his fans will pay their respects to his final film. Lastly, it’s the Dark Knight, you can’t go wrong with that!

Iron Man Tops Box Office with $100M+ Debut
Written by Jay on May 5, 2008 – -
Did I not tell you that Iron Man was going to be one of the first biggest movies this year? Not only was the movie excellent, but it did great in the box office with a $100M+ debut on it’s opening weekend. But of course, we knew it was going to be number 1 in the box office. Matter of fact, it’ll still be number 1 next week as well. But let’s not jump the gun with my predictions!
But this comic book adaption will become one of only 10 films to have broken the $100M+ barrier in the first three days of it’s debut. If we all remember, Spider-Man 3 still holds the Top Hollywood Debuts sitting at $151M, followed by Pirates of the Caribbean with $136M and Shrek the Third at $122M. Ironman finished 10th on that list.
These Marvel production movies are really hitting it big, huh? I mean, they have 4 of the top 10 Hollywood debuts in the box office (Spider-Man 3, Spider-Man, X-Men: The Last Stand and now Iron Man).
So, what’s next? Maybe The Incredible Hulk sequel featuring Edward Norton to be released early this summer? Honestly, I don’t think it will hit the $100M+ mark in the opening weekend, but that’s my prediction.
While Iron Man finished first in the box office this past weekend, the romantic comedy Made of Honor finished a very, very distant second taking in $15.5M.
Last week’s number 1 Baby Mama dropped to third with $10M, Forgetting Sarah Marshall was fourth followed by Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay which rounded out the top 5 movies this weekend.

Ironman Spoiler - Stay Till After the Credits!
Written by Jay on May 3, 2008 – -
With all the extra hype to the Marvel Comics Ironman on the big-screen, of course, I had to go check it out. Well, even without the hype, I would’ve gone to see it. And can I just say it was a great movie!
Personally, I knew it was going to be a box-office hit. It might not break Spiderman box-office records but it’ll be up there. On top of that, I thought Ironman was better than the first Spiderman. But that’s just my personal opinion.
But if you are reading this and you have yet to see Ironman, there’s two things that I have to warn you about: Stay through the credits, there’s an extra scene! And it’s not a crappy 2 second scene like the one at the end of X-men 3! Also, at the end of this post I will be exposing what happens at the end scene, so if you do not want to know then I would suggest that you should not read on.
I mean, I’m letting you the spoiler at the end credits scene of Ironman, so I had to warn you.
Ironman has to be one of the best movies I’ve seen this year. When I first found out that Robert Downey Jr. was going to play Ironman, I was pretty disappointed. It’s the same feeling that I get when I see Ed Norton trying to be the Incredible Hulk. It just wasn’t right. Luckily, I was proven wrong.
So, good job Mr. Robert Downey Jr!
Also, Gwyneth Paltrow actually impressed me in the movie in two ways: She didn’t suck and damn, she actually looked pretty good. And I mean, goooooodddd…..
Jeff Bridges, damn, you have changed. I didn’t even realize it was you in the movie until the end. Throughout the movie I was like “damn, that guy looks so familar!”
Terence Howard, it wasn’t your best role but you’re still the man!
Okay, so for the after credits spoiler…
Honestly, when I first heard that there was going to be an extra scene after the credits, I thought it was going to be something equivalent the introduction of War Machine and Terence Howard’s character, but I was wrong.
I’ll just say… Samuel L. Jackson… Nick Fury… and S.H.I.E.L.D. Can you say “Avengers?”
And there you have it!
