Brett Favre Trade: Finally! Do I Smell Madden Curse?
Written by Jay on August 7, 2008 – -
With all the good things this NFL season, the Brett Favre trade was not one of them. Matter of fact, Brett Favre coming back from retirement has taken over the NFL news it has gotten somewhat annoying. Plus, with his eager return, do I smell a Madde curse for this season?
Before we get to the Madden curse, let’s just get this Brett Favre trade talk done and over with. Favre and the Packers couldn’t come up with an agreement due mainly to his indecisiveness of staying retired or not. Well, the Packers moved on and Brett Favre’s selfishness is finally done; he’s going to play… for the New York Jets.
The Green Bay Packers finally reached an agreement yesterday to trade Favre to the Jets. And the ugly split between the two is finally over.
Now Brett Favre re-returning from retirement on various occasions has gotten him on the cover Madden 2009 football game. Now if history plays out, being on the Madden videogame cover isn’t as great as it seems. A majority of people who appear on the cover end up having a terrible season or worse, injured.
Could the Madden curse affect the Brett Favre trade and re-returning from retirement? Well, since the Jets aren’t going to make the playoffs, I think Favre should be extremely careful.
And if he has a horrible season or gets injured, I guess the Madden curse lives on, huh?

NFL Will Monitor Players Who Use Gang Signs On-Field
Written by Jay on July 18, 2008 – -The professional sports leagues are stepping up to prevent any gang-related activities. The NFL will be reviewing game tapes to ensure players are not flashing hand signals of street gangs. I mean, players have to watch out with their touchdown celebrations even more!
Supposedly, League Officials have been avoiding gang-related activities for quite sometime, though, nothing has really been implemented to protect from this. But finally, it looks like the league hired some experts to look at game tapes to identify players or team officials who might be using gang signals.
Let’s hope that “eagle two, hawk down” signal call for a play isn’t ruled a gang signal.
But the gang-related scrutiny got a little more serious after the shooting of Denver cornerback Darrent Williams in 2007. It was said that Williams was involved in a dispute with known gang members.
The NFL also took notice after everyone made a big deal of Boston Celtics player Paul Pierce’s alleged gang sign (see image below). I’m not sure if that was the same exact “gang sign” but according to Pierce, “I 100 percent do not in any way promote gang violence or anything close to it.”
We all remember when he got stabbed at a nightclub a few years back don’t we? Hey, I’m not saying it was gang-related but more of a coincidence.
But we’ll see what happens with the NFL’s reviewing of gang signs. I included an image of various gang signs, just incase you guys were interested! (Click the image to see the full size)
